It looks like today may stay mostly dry for many in Eastern Iowa, but tonight and Friday night could be a different story, with concerns about severe weather each night.
After a pleasant Wednesday with highs in the low 80s and low humidity, KCRG-TV9 First Alert Storm Team meteorologist Kaj O'Mara said we're back in an active pattern, as muggy weather returns with dew points pushing 70 by this afternoon. Heat and humidity will be building today, setting the stage for isolated storms to develop.
By evening, a much larger storm complex will develop and move eastward, O'Mara said. The complex of storms this evening has the capability of turning severe with straight-line winds of 70 mph or more possible. Much of Eastern Iowa is under a moderate risk of severe weather for late today into tonight.
And with the ground already saturated from recent heavy rains, there's a heightened chance of flash flooding over the next few days, O'Mara added.
Things don't improve much over the next seven days, either. The threat of heavy rain and severe weather is there nearly every day through next Wednesday, with highs in the mid to upper 80s and high dew points each day.
Saturday holds the best chance for dry weather, O'Mara said, after Friday night's storms break up.
