UPDATE: No one was hurt when a semi-trailer truck tipped onto its side, spilling about 50,000 pounds of grain onto a Taco Bell drive-through lane early Monday morning.
Police responded around 4:45 a.m. to the corner of Sixth Street and 33rd Avenue SW, where the semi tipped while making a turn. Workers on the scene said the trailer was full of corn germ – the inner part of a corn kernel – and was headed to the Archer Daniels Midland Plant.
The grain spilled onto the sidewalk onto the drive-through lane of the restaurant, which was not open. Workers used a huge vacuum to collect the corn germ and get it into another semi trailer.
Authorities were still investigating how the rig tipped over.
