Semi driver seriously hurt in Interstate 380 crash near Swisher

SWISHER - A semi truck driver was hospitalized with serious injuries Wednesday morning after his truck struck the back of another semi on Interstate 380 near Swisher, snarling traffic in the area for several hours.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a semi driven by Jose Gonzalez, 69, of Chicago, was attempting to drive his truck from the shoulder back onto the traveled portion of northbound Interstate 380, near the Swisher exit, at 8:14 a.m. Wednesday when his truck was struck from the rear by another semi driven by Jaeson Ross, 35, of Rolling Meadows, Ill.
Ross was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City with serious injuries from the crash. Gonzalez wasn't hurt, according to the State Patrol report.
Traffic was slowed for several hours in the crash area as the roadway was cleared. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
