No one was injured when a school bus went into the ditch near Peosta after the driver had an apparent medical condition, authorities said.
Kevin Curoe, 50, of Bernard, was driving the Western Dubuque School District bus on Highway 20 when it went into the ditch near the exit ramp for Peosta around 8 a.m., authorities said.
Western Dubuque Superintendent Jeff Corkery said the bus went into the ditch at a low speed as it was en route to Seton Catholic School in Peosta. Thirteen young children were aboard the bus, but none of them were hurt, he said.
“Evidentially, he had the blinker on and was slowing down to make the exit, but he didn't make the turn and went into the ditch,” Corkery said.
Sgt. Thomas Reittinger, of the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office, said it appeared Curoe had some sort of medical issue while he was driving, which caused the crash. Curoe was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.
The children on the bus were shuttled to school with another bus. The school was notifying parents of the accident, Corkery said.
The bus did not sustain any damage, authorities said.
