A Cedar Rapids woman died this afternoon after she rear-ended a Springville school bus on the southbound lanes of Highway 151.
At around 3:28 p.m., Lynn Marie Mota, 39, was traveling west on Highway 151 when her car collided with the school bus, which had its flashers on while unloading students at a farm drive just two miles west of Springville. Mota and her minivan were trapped beneath the parked school bus and Mota died from the wounds she suffered in the crash.
Mota was wearing her seat belt at the time of the incident.
Iowa State Patrol investigators say that the bus driver and the students were not harmed in the collision.
Traffic in southbound lanes on Highway 151 was shut down for almost an hour and a half while authorities investigated the incident.
Emergency crews had to extricate the driver of a minivan after she fatally collided with a parked school bus on Highway 151 Wednesday afternoon. No one on the bus was harmed during the accident. (Liz Martin/The Gazette)
