Ryan’s Steakhouse evacuated for gas leak
Sep. 8, 2014 10:29 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - A gas leak during routine cleaning led to the evacuation of Ryan's Steakhouse on Collins Road Monday evening.
Firefighters say an employee was cleaning part of the restaurant's fryer when the gas line behind the fryer broke, causing gas to leak into the kitchen.
The building was evacuated, and MidAmerican Energy shut off gas service to the entire building.
Firefighters on the scene credit a ventilation hood over the gas leak with reducing the severity of the leak.
They say Ryan's must have a contractor repair the broken line before gas service can be restored.
A listing for the restaurant on the company's corporate website lists the restaurant's hours as 10:45 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays, making it unclear if the gas leak would impact the store's opening on Tuesday.
No injuries were reported.
