The former manager of the Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville has been moved to an individual cell at the Linn County Jail after getting into a scuffle with another inmate.
Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner said Sholom Rubashkin and a fellow inmate were arguing over the volume level on a television Tuesday night when their verbal disagreement turned physical. The incident occurred in a common area in the cell block both men shared, Gardner said.
Both inmates were put in individual cells until a hearing officer at the jail can determine if the men should face further punishment, Gardner said.
Rubashkin is being held in the Linn County Jail as part of a contract between the county and the United States Marshals Service to hold federal prisoners.
Rubashkin, 51, of Postville, was convicted by a jury in November on 86 counts of bank fraud and other charges. A sentencing date hasn't been set. The charges stem from the May 2008 immigration raid at the former Postville meatpacking plant, where more than 389 illegal workers were arrested and charged.
