FARGO, N.D. - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders rallied twice in regulation and ended up beating the Fargo Force, 5-4, in a shootout Friday night.
It's the 12th straight road win for the club, breaking the United States Hockey League record for most wins away from home to start a season. Fifth-shooter Dylan McLaughlin's successful try and goalie Ben Blacker's ensuing save won the shootout, 2-1.
The RoughRiders - who played with only 17 skaters, two shy of maximum - are at Sioux City on Saturday night. They are 2-0 without four key regulars, who are away from the team representing the United States in an international tournament in Canada.
Cedar Rapids trailed after a period, 2-0, and after two, 3-1. Goals from Jiri Fronk and Hugh McGing less than three minutes apart tied it midway through the third period.
Fargo scored with 3:16 left to take a 4-3 edge, but Cal Burke tied it again with a goal with 2:07 remaining.
Fronk and Fargo's Kyle Sylvester were successful on their teams' respective first shootout try. The RoughRiders are 20-3 for a USHL-best 40 standings points.
