Ron Corbett launches Bike To Work Week with annual Mayor’s Bike Ride

CEDAR RAPIDS - Mayor Ron Corbett launched Cedar Rapids' Bike To Work Week Monday morning by leading his annual bike ride through downtown Cedar Rapids.
Corbett also signed a proclamation declaring May 15-19 Bike To Work Week during a ceremony at Red's Public House, 112 Second St. SE.
In celebration of National Bike Month, residents are invited to participate in a variety of bike friendly activities throughout the month of May designed to encourage cycling, enhance bike safety education and continue growing a bike-friendly culture. In particular, Bike to Work Week offers events focused on bike education, healthy incentives to get people active and moving and opportunities to gather with community members who share a love for biking.
Events for the rest of the week are as follows:
- Tuesday - Pit stops for educational material, snacks and giveaways from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE; First Avenue E at the Fourth Street corridor trail across from the DoubleTree Hotel; and Rockwell Collins, at the corner of F Avenue and Collins Road.
- Wednesday - Bike to Lunch with the Mayor. Meet at City Hall, 101 N. First St. SE at 11 a.m. and bike to Sag Wagon, 827 Shaver Road NE. Event concludes by 1 p.m.
- Wednesday - The Ride of Silence at 6 p.m. Meet at Marion Square on Seventh Avenue in Marion.
- Thursday - Pit stops for educational material, snacks, and giveaways at 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE; First Avenue E at the Fourth Street corridor trail across from the DoubleTree Hotel; and Rockwell Collins, at the corner of F Avenue and Collins Road.
- Thursday - Bike Ride to Ely. Meet at NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE, at 6 p.m.
- Friday - Handlebar Happy Hour/Wrap-up Party at 6 p.m. at Lion Bridge Brewery, 59 16th Ave. SW.
