A buckle in the road Tuesday afternoon slowed southbound traffic on Interstate 380 near Wilson Avenue.
Traffic was reduced to two lanes near the buckle and moving slowly at 6 p.m.
Craig Hansen, the city's public works maintenance manager, said earlier this month that such road blowups, caused by intense heat, are common each summer, especially as air temperatures hit the upper 80s and low 90s.
The heat causes road materials, including underground pipes, to expand and change shape and eventually "blow up," Hansen said.
