Resident: Wheel flies from truck, hits home

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids resident said a flying wheel smashed into the side of her home early Thanksgiving morning.

Judy Baldwin said a black Chevy pickup lost control around 2:15 a.m.

in her neighborhood in the 1200 block of 74th Street NE. She said the truck hit two trees and a utility pole before it lost its right rear wheel.

The wheel hit the side of her condo at 1211 74th St. NW, Baldwin said, where it narrowly missed the front window. The impact damaged siding and a gutter as well as some drywall inside the home.

Baldwin said the truck was seen leaving the scene on three wheels with sparks flying off the back end.

She said law enforcement officers had the wheel and other parts from the truck. No arrests had been reported late Thursday.
