Rescuers searching for driver of vehicle found in Cedar River

CEDAR RAPIDS --- Rescue crews were looking Saturday afternoon for the driver of a vehicle found submerged in the Cedar River.

Police and firefighters responded after 7 a.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle in the river about a mile upstream of the Edgewood Road bridge. Dive crews and other first responders found the vehicle in several feet of water and were able to bring it to shore around 3:30 p.m.

But there were no occupants inside.

“Authorities are now redeploying resources in the immediate vicinity and downstream from the incident site to conduct search and recovery operations,” Cedar Rapids police said in a news release.

Police said they were conducting an active investigation but as of Saturday evening had not located any occupants.
