CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids city officials held a news conference at 2 p.m. today at City Hall, 101 First St. SE, to discuss plans for dealing with projected high river levels.
The Cedar River is forecast to crest Tuesday at more than 24 feet. That would be the second highest level at which the river has crested in history, according to the Iowa Flood Information System.
The highest level was 31.12 feet on June 13, 2008.
As of now, the second highest crest on record is 20 feet, which has happened on two occasions — first on June 1, 1851, and again on March 18, 1929.
