Remains of Cedar Rapids man killed in Pearl Harbor return home

Family gathered as Navy Signalman 3rd Class William Shanahan Jr. was returned to Cedar Rapids on Friday, Aug. 30, nearly 80 years after he was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Shanahan's
remains were identified earlier this year, and funeral and burial services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3.
