RECALL: Maytag of Newton recalls Maytag, Magic Chef, Performa, Crosley brand refrigerators

- About 46,000 Maytag, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand refrigerators, manufactured in the United States by Maytag Corp. of Newton, Iowa, because an electrical failure can cause them to overheat. This poses a fire hazard. This is an expansion of a March recall of 1.6 million units. Maytag has received an additional 23 reports of incidents. The refrigerators were sold at department and appliance stores, as well as by homebuilders, around the country between September 2000 and May 2004.
