RAGBRAI Director T.J. Juskiewicz told this year's riders they were in for one of the easiest rides across the state in the event's 38-year history.
Measuring 442 miles from west to east and including 14,527 total feet of climb, Juskiewicz says this year's route will offer a nice break after the more grueling routes of the past few years.
The route was announced Saturday night in the Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines to a crowd of more than 500.
The ride will run from July 25 through July 31. Riders will start the statewide trek in Sioux City, ultimately dipping their front tires in the Mississippi River in Iowa's oldest town, Dubuque, where the ride will be complete.
Officials will announce the 50 more towns that riders will pass through. The six other overnight towns, from west to east, were Storm Lake, Algona, Clear Lake, Charles City, Waterloo and Manchester.
