Pump failure leads to wastewater discharge at UIHC
Apr. 22, 2015 7:46 pm
IOWA CITY - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is monitoring a situation involving wastewater from the University of Iowa Hospitals and clinics that was discharged into a sewer.
A release from the DNR says a pump failure on Wednesday led to an unknown amount of water being diverted into a storm sewer, which drains into the Iowa River. The university is pumping and hauling wastewater to prevent further discharge while the pump is repaired.
Natural resources officials advise residents to keep children and pets away from the Iowa River below Iowa Avenue and the dam for the next 48 hours as a result of the discharge.
