CEDAR RAPIDS - City officials have issued a precautionary boil water advisory after a water main break in northwest Cedar Rapids.
According to a news release from the city of Cedar Rapids, the water main break occurred at F Ave and 18th Street NW Thursday morning. The break disrupted normal water distribution and water pressure, and has created a potential for bacteria contamination to occur, officials said.
Residents within the following affected area are asked to use bottled water or boil water before consuming:
' F Avenue NW to the north
' 25th Street SW to the west
' 16th Avenue SW to the south
' 13th Street SW to the east
Cedar Rapids Community School District spokesman Marcia Hughes said Thursday classes at Cleveland Elementary have been canceled. Sixth and seventh grade students at Roosevelt Middle School will be dismissed at 9:40 a.m. and eighth grade students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m.
Officials said crews are working to repair the water system in the affected area. Updates on the advisory can be found on the city website.
