Police officers will be serving pulled pork sandwiches during a free benefit lunch for Special Olympics today.
The statewide event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at seven Texas Roadhouse restaurants, including in Cedar Rapids, Coralville and Cedar Falls. The meals themselves are free, but all donations left at the table will go directly to Special Olympics Iowa.
In Cedar Rapids, officers from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, Linn County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Natural Resources will be serving lunch.
At the Coralville location, the Coralville Police Department, Iowa City Police Department, University of Iowa Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, Iowa State Patrol and the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility will be represented.
In addition to pulled pork, the meal includes applesauce, fresh-baked bread with honey cinnamon butter and a beverage.
Texas Roadhouse restaurants in Davenport, Urbandale, Sioux City and Council Bluffs are also participating.
