IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Published reports have Iowa Rep. Kerry Burt, D-Waterloo telling police during a drunk driving arrest that he had been drinking with Gov. Chet Culver.
Burt was arrested in Ankeny on Feb. 11, allegedly with a blood-alcohol level of 0.129 percent, which is above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
An Ankeny Police Department report also indicates Burt told officers he couldn't be arrested because he was a state legislator.
A spokesman for Culver told WHO-TV in Des Moines that the governor had been at an evening reception Feb. 10 at Embassy Suites in downtown Des Moines attended by Burt and other politicians. He added the governor had returned to the governor's mansion by 9 p.m. Ankeny police stopped Burt early the next day.
Burt was laid off from the Waterloo Fire Department after losing his drivers license.
