UPDATE: Police have no suspects in shooting early Thursday morning in Cedar Rapids.
Multiple callers reported a gunshot with a victim just before 2 a.m. in the 1500 block of E Avenue NE. The first officers to arrive found Carol Lekin, 42, of Cedar Rapids, on the ground with one gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was conscious and breathing when paramedics took her to St. Luke's Hospital, police said.
Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.
“She seems to be managing OK right now,” Sgt. Ryan Abodeely said. “She was treated, but she's probably going to be in the hospital for a while.”
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, a police spokeswoman, said officers briefly talked to Lekin at the scene, but were planning to visit her later Thursday in the hospital.
“She never gave us any indication that she knew who the (suspect or suspects) were,” Hamblin said.
Police are in the early stages of an investigation and are looking for witnesses, or anyone who was in the area around that time. Anyone with information is asked to call Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-CR-CRIME. All calls are anonymous.
