A Coralville woman is accused of using a motorized grocery cart to steal more than $100 worth of items from Wal-Mart.
According to a police report, store staff witnessed Joan P. Kamentz, 55, shoplifting at the Wal-Mart store at 919 Highway 1 West at 5:50 p.m. Sunday.
Police say Kamentz traveled through the store on the motorized cart, gathering grocery items, police said. Kamentz then left the shopping area in the motorized cart and transferred the items into a standard shopping cart, they added.
Store staff told police they watched as Kamentz pushed the cart of stolen items out of the store. The amount of items was valued at $109.41, according to a report.
Kamentz is charged with fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor. She has been released from custody, police said.
Court records indicate Kamentz has a previous theft record from 2007 in Coralville.
