Police say Sherrill woman paid someone to kill ex-husband

Police arrested 45-year-old Elizabeth Behnke at her Sherrill home at 3:20 a.m. Friday on charges she solicited someone to murder her ex-husband.

Investigators say Behnke arranged for a hit-person to kill her ex-husband during the day Friday.

According to the Dubuque County Sheriff's Department, Behnke made a partial payment to the hit-person several hours before her arrest.

Behnke is behind bars awaiting her initial court appearance Saturday.

Sherrill is northwest of Dubuque.
