UPDATE: Stacey Berrier, 45, of Ely, was arrested after he fired a shot at another man late Wednesday at a southwest Cedar Rapids tavern, police said. Berrier's escape from the scene went awry when he rode his motorcycle off the road.
Officers responding to a report of a shot fired at the Shack Tavern, 2545 Old River Rd. SW, a few minutes before midnight found the suspect rode off after firing a handgun at a man on the building's roof, police Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
Sheriff's deputies found Berrier's motorcycle, but not Berrier, a few minutes later in the 6300 block of Old River Road. A silver handgun was found near the motorcycle.
Deputies went to the home of the registered owner and found Berrier asleep on the couch, according to Hamblin.
The man who was on the Shack's roof didn't want to press charges, but Berrier was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits, and failure to maintain control for crashing his motorcycle. He was taken to the county jail after a check of his injuries at St. Luke's Hospital.
