UPDATE: A woman was killed when she was struck by a vehicle on a busy Cedar Rapids street early Friday, police said.
Sgt. Joe Clark said a man driving to work struck and killed the woman in a westbound lane of Blairs Ferry Road NE east of Rockwell Drive NE. The accident was reported at 4:08 a.m.
The woman, whose name has not been released by police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the death is not considered suspicious. Clark said the driver of the vehicle was stunned and did not immediately stop, but he did return to the scene to speak with investigators. No charges have been announced.
“There are no witnesses, so we're unsure why she was in the middle of the road at 4 a.m.,” Clark said.
The female victim is believed to be in her late 20s, but she has not been positively identified, Clark said. An autopsy would be conducted, he said.
Police blocked traffic for the investigation, but all lanes were open by 6 a.m.
