A Nevada man faces his third drunken driving charge after officers clocked him at 120 mph during a police chase early Monday.
Police first spotted Jason A. Weigel, 28, driving a motorcycle north in the 5600 block of Sixth Street SW. Officers tried to pull him over for going 67 mph in the 40 mph zone, according to Sgt. Cristy Hamblin.
Chased by police, Weigel turned onto Highway 30, and for a while, he was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, police said. He eventually crossed the median and continued east, hitting 120 mph in the 65 mph zone, police said.
Police lost sight of Weigel at that point, but spotted the same motorcycle around 1:25 a.m. when its driver ran a stop sign at 76th Avenue and Sixth Street SW. Police followed it south, where they found the motorcycle on the ground near Wright Brothers Boulevard SW and saw the driver running away.
Weigel ignored a command to stop and was later found hiding in some nearby trees, police said. He was taken to jail on numerous traffic charges, including operating while intoxicated, reckless driving and speeding.
