An Iowa City man faces drug charges after police say he tried to flush more than 44 grams of marijuana down the toilet.
Police were dispatched around 6 p.m. Friday to locate a wanted individual and found Anthony M. Horton Jr., 25, of 2401 Highway 6 E. No. 3601, who matched their description in front of the 18 building at Dolphin Lake Point Enclave. When officers activated their lights, he took off running, police said.
Officers chased him to the 30 building into apt. 3 and residents there called 911 saying someone went into their bathroom and closed the door, according to police reports. Police said officers went into the apartment and Horton eventually opened the door and he was taken into custody. The toilet was stuffed and clogged with a large amount of marijuana, police said. More than 44 grams of marijuana was seized from the toilet and Horton's phone had text messages alluding to the selling of drugs. Police also found six plastic baggies near the toilet. Horton admitted the marijuana was his when questioned, police said.
Horton faces charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, criminal trespass, obstructing officers and an Iowa drug tax stamp violation. He remains in the Johnson County Jail Sunday on a $23,500 cash-only bond.
