CEDAR RAPIDS – No injuries were reported when gunshots rang out in southeast Cedar Rapids late Tuesday, police said.
Officers responded around 10 p.m. to the 1500 block of Bever Avenue SE after 911 callers reported the gunshots. Investigators searched the street with flashlights and found “several” spent shell casings, according to Lt. Kenneth Washburn.
Witnesses told police a group of 20 to 30 people were gathered outside when a fight broke out and someone fired a handgun, police said.
No property damage was discovered in the area. Washburn said officers later searched a house at 1549 Bever Ave. SE, believing it was connected to the shooting. No one there was arrested, and Washburn declined to say if any items were taken into evidence.
“We have not developed enough information to lead to an arrest yet,” Washburn said.
The investigation is continuing, police said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at (319) 286-5400 or (319) 286-5491.
