An Iowa City woman is in custody after her infant son tested positive for methamphetamine exposure.
According to criminal complaints, officers executed a narcotics search warrant at 205 Golfview Court in Iowa City on Feb. 4. During the search, police found multiple bags of methamphetamine as well as items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Officers arrested Dennis J. Seeman, 31, in connection to possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a Class B felony.
During the search, Seeman's girlfriend, Salana M. Scarborough, 22, was present with her 17-month-old son. Police said Omega Laboratories test results from the Department of Human Services came back Feb. 22 showing the child tested positive for meth exposure.
Police said the boy's hair tested positive at 2,427 picograms per milligram of hair, nearly five times the threshold to yield a negative test. A test result of 500 picograms per milligram or higher results in a positive test.
Scarborough allegedly admitted to police she knew other occupants in the residence were using and selling meth. Scarborough also allegedly confessed to buying pseudoephedrine and giving it to Seeman to make meth. Police said records show Scarborough has purchased pseudoephedrine on five occasions in the last two months.
Scarborough was arrested and charged with child endangerment causing bodily injury from meth exposure, a Class D felony. She is being held in Johnson County Jail on a $7,500 cash only bond.
