The masked man who robbed a northwest Cedar Rapids pizza shop Wednesday used a tool to threaten the employee and then took off with the cash register, police said.
Officers responded around 5:40 p.m. to Mama Mia's Pizza and Pasta House, 408 Edgewood Rd. NW, when the hold-up was reported. The employee told police the suspect displayed what might have been a screwdriver and demanded money, according to the police report.
The employee refused and called police, but the man grabbed the register and ran out the front door, police said. No one was hurt.
The suspect was described as a black male, possibly around 30 years old, standing about 5-foot-7 with an average build. He was wearing a mask and a black shirt.
It marks the second robbery in five months at the pizza shop. On June 16, two men threatened workers with a plastic gun.
Police continue to investigate. No arrests have been made.
