An Iowa City man brought into the Johnson County Jail on a domestic abuse assault charge was found with marijuana while being searched in the jail.
Police responded to a residence on Taylor Drive around 8:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 hangup call. In the call, a woman told police Antonio N. Martin, 29, allegedly punched her in the side of her face, causing swelling, and said she had choked her a few days earlier, according to police complaints.
The woman told police she didn't call before because she was scared and said “I would have died today if I didn't call,” according to police.
After being arrested on a warrant, Martin was taken to the jail, where officers found seven individually packages of marijuana and $487 cash in his jacket.
Besides the domestic abuse assault charge with intent, he is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, and possessing contraband in a correctional facility.
