Police chase, lose ATV in southwest Cedar Rapids

UPDATE: Police chased an all-terrain vehicle through a section of southwest Cedar Rapids before the driver eventually got away early Thursday morning.

Officers spotted a man driving the ATV on the street around 12:47 a.m. near the corner of Wilson Avenue and 18th Street SW. The driver took off to the south when the officers tried to pull him over for the traffic violation.

Police set up a perimeter hoping to trap the ATV and its driver. It was spotted a few times, but police eventually ended the search without finding the suspect.

The ATV, driven by a white male, was last seen headed southbound on the railroad tracks near 21st Street SW and Highway 30. No injuries were reported from the incident.

The driver was described as a white man with brown hair wearing a brown shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap.
