IOWA CITY - Iowa City police on Friday arrested a 23-year-old Cedar Rapids man on suspicion of a felony drug charge after officers found more than 100 ecstasy tablets in his possession.
Andre Lamar Gervin Jr. was arrested about 9 p.m. Friday on suspicion of a controlled substance violation after he was met by police as he exited a bus in Iowa City, according to a criminal complaint. Officers had been tipped off that Gervin was traveling on a bus from Chicago to Iowa City carrying drugs, the complaint states.
The anonymous tipster provided a description of the suspect and said he identified as “Andre,” police reported. Officers recognized Gervin as matching the suspect description when he stepped off the bus Friday night.
Gervin consented to a search, according to police, and officers found two ounces of ecstasy in his possession in the form of 100 tablets.
Gervin “admitted that it was ecstasy and that he possessed it with the intention of selling it,” according to the criminal complaint.
He remains at the Johnson County Jail, where he's being held in lieu of a $22,000 cash-only bond.
