Podcast: 'On The Record' talks with victim of domestic violence
Trish Mehaffey Oct. 20, 2015 11:52 am
On the Record this week recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month with special guest, Hailey, a survivor of domestic violence.
Hailey was abused by a former boyfriend, and after a 2013 incident where she feared for her life, she called police to report the abuse.
Hailey is not the real name of this survivor, and the abuser's name used in the podcast also was changed to protect the victim.
Also featured in this episode are Anastasia Wilson, witness/victim coordinator with Linn County Attorney's Office, and Sarah Bliss, case manager with Cedar Valley Friends of the Family. Both Wilson and Bliss have worked with Hailey as she coped with the abusive relationship, and when her boyfriend was convicted in court. They discuss the emotions and trauma these women experience and how they can receive help.
The guests discuss several resources available to victims of domestic violence in this podcast, including legal assistance, counseling and more. For immediate help, victims can call the Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-770-1650.
On the Record is a weekly news podcast focusing on courts, crime trends and any legal issues of the day hosted by Trish Mehaffey and produced by Clare Murphy.
