Podcast: 'On The Record' talks with Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Lightfoot on helping individuals coming out of prison find jobs
Trish Mehaffey Jul. 22, 2016 1:17 pm
This week's On the Record talks with Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Lightfoot about some workshops next week geared to help individuals coming out of prison find jobs.
The free workshops are open to employers, human resource professionals, business students and other community members to learn about the benefits of hiring ex-offenders and hopefully, address any concerns for prospective employers. Studies have shown that employment decreases the risk of an individual committing a new crime.
The 'Iowa's Untapped Workforce: A Roadmap for Second Chance Hiring,' workshops are a cooperative effort between the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa, Iowa Workforce, Iowa Department of Corrections, IowaWORKS, the Siouxland Initiative, the Employers' Councils of Iowa and nonprofit America's Job Honor Awards.
The workshops are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30:
- July 26 at the Clarion Hotel in Cedar Rapids
- July 27 at Best Western Starlight Village in Ft. Dodge
- July 28 at Bev's on the River in Sioux City
Registration is still open, please contact Linda Mersch at the U.S. Attorney's Office, 319-731-4003 or USAIAN.USAttyIAN@usdoj.gov
