DES MOINES - Planned Parenthood of the Heartland has announced plans to merge with two of its affiliates.
The organization, which provides health services in 83 Iowa counties, said it has signed a contract stating intent to merge with Planned Parenthood affiliates in Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma by January 1, 2012.
“We are excited to join PP Heartland in a new, multi-state affiliate that will be stronger and more efficient,” said Kathy Sparks, board chair of Planned Parenthood of Eastern Oklahoma, in a statement.
Jill June, the President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, will be the interim president of the Eastern Oklahoma affiliate, and the joint administrative office will continue to be based in Des Moines, the organization said.
The organization said the merger will allow it to offer new services including adoption, sexual assault exams, male services, LGBT care and age appropriate education programs.
Once the merger is complete, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland will operate about 30 centers throughout Nebraska, Iowa, Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma, it said.
