Pitcher Penilla joins Kernels

CEDAR RAPIDS - The parent Minnesota Twins announced Wednesday that left-handed pitcher Derrick Penilla has been assigned to the Cedar Rapids Kernels from extended spring training.
Penilla, 22, was a 15th-round draft pick of the Twins last June out of Mount San Antonio Junior College in California. He pitched last season for the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Twins, going 1-2 with a 5.40 earned run average in 14 games and one start.
His addition brings the Kernels' active roster to a maximum 25 players. The club played Wednesday night at Quad Cities.
