Police arrested a Cedar Rapids man for drunken driving after he struck a boy with his pickup Tuesday.
Chad E. Johnson, 34, of 1606 Sierra Dr. NE, was driving on 19th Street SE around 6:35 p.m. when he struck Tyrell Braggs, 14, near the corner of Fourth Avenue SE, police said. Braggs was still laying on the ground when police arrived.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the mirror on Johnson's pickup struck Braggs as he was walking down the middle of 19th Street SE. Braggs was not trying to cross the road, she said.
Braggs was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.
Officers found several empty cans and one partially full can of Busch Light beer in Johnson's pickup, Hamblin said.
Johnson was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated, no insurance and open container and was taken to the Linn County Jail.
