The Cedar Rapids Fire Department and Animal Control have rescued a dog out from under rocks at Shaver Park.
Kris Alderson, 21, was walking her brother's 8-month-old Australian Shephard dog, Bella, around noon Thursday when the dog's leash slipped out of her hand and the dog went running. After searching the park for nearly an hour, Alderson could hear the dog whimpering on the side on an embankment that leads to a ravine just east of Wenig Road and Pikes Peak Court NE in Shaver Park.
The dog had fallen between some rocks in the embankment, was wedged inside, and unable to escape on its own. Firefighters arrived and were able to free the dog in 40 minutes. Bella was not injured.
