Marvin “Pete” Jacobs, 87, died Feb. 19 while sitting in his room at the Fonda Specialty Care facility in Pocahontas County. Jacobs had undergone a tracheostomy, and because his airway tended to become clogged, the staff kept a suctioning machine by his bedside.

More than a quarter of Iowa’s roughly 2.2 million registered voters have been moved to “inactive” status, according to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office. Inactive individuals still are registered to vote and can participate in elections between now and the November 2026 general election. If they do not, their voter registration would be canceled after the November 2026 election and they would have to re-register to vote in the state.

At least one of the tornadoes that tore across Iowa Friday afternoon has been classified as an EF 4, the second-highest rating available on the scale that’s used to measure the storms. The National Weather Service reports there were at least 11 injuries from the storms.
