You don't have to head to La La Land or dock your dinghy at Manchester by the Sea to join in Sunday night's Oscars revelry. Two venues in the Corridor are ready for your arrival.
FilmScene and the Englert Theatre in Iowa City are rolling out the blue carpet at 6:30 p.m. for a big bash in a new venue. FilmScene, at 118 E. College St., will air the festivities on two screens and in the lobby. Preshow begins at 7 p.m., followed by the Oscars ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door or Icfilmscene.org
Guests are invited to sashay down the runway in a glittery get-up or comfy clothes. Pose for photos, compete for prizes, predict the winners, munch on free popcorn and wash it down with Iowa craft beers, wine and movie-inspired specialty drinks, offered for sale.
At the north end of the Corridor, party central is Collins Road Theatres, 1462 Twixt Town Rd., Marion.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the annual Tuxedo-Optional party. You don't have to gussy up - unless you want to be a winner. Prizes will be awarded for best formal wear, best movie character attire and in the pick-the-winner contest.
Red Carpet coverage begins at 6 p.m., followed by the Oscars award show at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, go to Collinsroadtheatres.com
Reuters/Mario Anzuoni After Sunday's Academy Awards, the stars will dine in style at the Governors Ball in Los Angeles. These edible Oscars, fashioned out of chocolate, were among the menu items displayed during a Feb. 16 press preview for the ball. Eastern Iowans can have a ball, too, at viewing parties tonight (2/26) at FilmScene in Iowa City and Collins Road Theatres in Marion.
