CEDAR RAPIDS - Police said officers are investigating a shooting at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and First Avenue Southwest around noon Sunday.
Police said one woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
One window was also damaged in the shooting. Police said they did not immediately have any suspects.
Officers blocked off an area at that intersection, limiting access to four apartments. Authorities say they were still investigating how many shots were fired.
Officers said it appears the victim was inside the building and that the shots came from outside.
A police car blocked the entrance to the back parking lot of the apartments and the street in front of the building. The sign on the side of the building said Richmar Apartments.
People living and dining nearby said they heard loud bangs.
'We thought it was firecrackers because the people in the one building over here are always shooting off fireworks, and it wasn't fireworks,” said Deborah Deason, who lives near where the shooting took place. I looked out the window and saw the cop circling a shell in front of the silver car over there.”
'It's kind of crazy, you know what I mean?” said Falah Alyassery, who lives nearby.
People in the area told us they heard five or six gunshots.
'Way too scary because I'm living so close,” Alyassery said.
The investigation is ongoing, and police said they have not made any arrests.
