One person was injured after an explosion rocked Coralville late Monday morning.
Coralville police said they received a report at 11:11 a.m. that there had been an explosion at the Coralville Waste Water Facility at 750 22nd Avenue, Coralville.
Assistant Coralville Fire Chief Orey Schwitzer said the man was injured while working on the roof of the sludge-holding facility when the explosion occurred. Schwitzer said he did not know if the man was a city employee or if he was a private contractor.
Schwitzer said the cause of the explosion is not yet known, but said the man may have been working with a torch while on the roof and methane may have played a role in the explosion. He added the explosion created a hole in the roof, which scattered debris onto 22nd Avenue.
