A four-hour long standoff ended peacefully around 12:25 a.m. Monday, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a welfare check at 1638 B Ave. NE around 8:20 p.m. Sunday. When they got there, they were not allowed inside the apartment.
A woman inside told police a man with a handgun was inside the apartment. That prompted officers to call the Cedar Rapids Special Response Team. In addition to the woman, there were four small children and one other woman in the apartment.
The women and children were released around 12:25 a.m. No one was hurt.
Officers took the 25-year-old male suspect into custody. He had a court-ordered committal and was turned over to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
