MOUNT VERNON - Officials have released the name of the driver of a motorcycle who died Friday after colliding head-on with a truck on Highway 30 near Mount Vernon.
The motorcyclist was identified as Trent J. Eadie, 45, of Cedar Rapids, according to a Saturday press release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office
At about 8:30 a.m. Friday, the Linn County Sheriff's Office was called to the scene near 10th Avenue, where they determined a 2005 Freightliner flatbed straight truck had been eastbound on Highway 30 in its proper lane, when it was struck head-on by a westbound 2003 BMW motorcycle.
A straight truck is one in which all axles are attached to a single frame.
The driver of the truck, Roger Gray, 68, of Swisher, was uninjured in the crash, according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
Eadie was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
An autopsy was performed Friday afternoon at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, the results of which will not be released until toxicology findings have also been received by the Linn County Medical Examiner, authorities said.
Traffic was diverted off Highway 30 between Highway 1 and Willow Creek Road West of Mount Vernon for about four hours following the incident.
The Accident Investigation Unit of the Linn County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash with assistance from the Mount Vernon Police Department and Iowa Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.
The Mount Vernon Fire Department, Lisbon Fire Department, Lisbon-Mount Vernon Ambulance Service, Linn County Medical Examiner's Office, Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Transportation also responded to the incident.
Investigation into the incident continues.
