UPDATE: A Norway girl was seriously injured when the car she was in was broadsided by a truck along Highway 151 in Fairfax this afternoon.
The crash happened in front of the Casey's General Store, between 80th Street SW and Cemetery Road, around 12:15 p.m. Jessica Schulze, 16, pulled out onto the highway from the Casey's store and was struck by a northbound truck driven by 77-year-old Victor Pilsner, of Robins, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
Schulze was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
Firefighters had to extricate Schulze from the white car, which sustained extensive damage to the driver's side when it was struck by the UPS-style truck. The truck involved had a logo on its door for D&V Industrial Supply of Robins.
Sheriff's Sgt. Mark Strait said both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Traffic was detoured around the accident scene for a short time.
