CEDAR RAPIDS - A North Liberty man is accused of second degree theft, second degree burglary and third degree criminal mischief after authorities say DNA samples placed him at the scene of an Iowa City burglary reported in January.
Records indicate that Anthony T. Shields, 45, of 515 N. Dubuque St., was allegedly identified by the DCI crime lab through a blood and a hair sample as being present at a residence, 829 Rider Street, Iowa City, which was burglarized on January 25.
On the above date, Iowa City Police responded to the location to find that over $1,000 worth of items including computers and jewelry were taken from the residence. Two explicative words were also written on the walls of the home with permanent markers.
According to Iowa City Police, the intruder apparently cut himself during the process of burglarizing the residence because blood, which was later identified as matching Shield's profile, was left inside the home in different locations.
Shields was being held at the Johnson County Jail waiting to appear before a judge on Sunday morning.
