UPDATE: No one was hurt when a power line fell directly in front of a school this morning.
The line caught fire and snapped just before 10 a.m. in the 3300 block of Pioneer Avenue SE, near Monroe Elementary. No kids were around when the line fell, a witness said.
“It was a little ball of fire and my lights were flickering,” said Tina Rusbult, who was inside the school.
The school and nearby residences were without power.
An Alliant Energy crew was on scene to make repairs. The outage could last 60 to 90 minutes, workers said.
One of the Alliant crewmembers said the hot temperatures likely caused a splice in the powerline to fail.
“Yeah, we're getting busy again,” he said.
