UPDATE: Power was knocked out to 500 Alliant Energy customers Monday afternoon when a semi-trailer truck brought down power lines on the north edge of Hiawatha.
Police said the semi was on North Center Point Road around 12:30 p.m. when the driver turned left onto a temporary driveway near Kacena Drive. The driver, from Florida, was trying to get to a business to the north, and was planning to pull in a lot to turn around when the trailer clipped a cable line, police said.
Two power lines then made contact, which caused the power outage, police said. The semi driver and a passenger stayed in the semi until help arrived, and no one was injured.
Alliant spokesman Justin Foss said power was restored in a little over an hour.
No charges were filed in the incident, police said.
