CEDAR RAPIDS — NewBo City Market is in need of a new executive director following the planned departure of market leader Julie Parisi.
Market officials announced Parisi’s impending departure Tuesday in a news release that outlined the contributions of her time at the nonprofit small business incubator. Her last day is Aug. 15.
“Under her guidance, the Market has flourished as a vibrant organization, fulfilling its mission as a retail incubator and community hub,” the release states. “As Julie embarks on a new career path, the market extends its full support and best wishes for her future endeavors.”
Parisi started as a NewBo City Market shopkeeper in 2015 with her business Zaza’s Pastas before joining the market’s staff in 2018 as director of business development. She was elevated to the position of executive director in 2021.
Per the release, the board of directors has already initiated the search for a new executive director. Market staff are expected to oversee ongoing operations until Parisi’s replacement is identified.
Reached by The Gazette, Parisi said she can’t yet speak about her next professional steps but that she intends to remain in Cedar Rapids. She expressed gratitude for her time at the market and excitement for the work still to come.
“I’m excited to see how things unfold for them in the next couple of years there,” she said. “I really do love it there, and I’m still going to be a huge supporter.”
